PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNTIES AT QINGXING LOU
The program of Qingxing Lou, in addition to being a living and functioning community for the residents, is constantly evolving. The tulou's current function is three-fold: part architectural preservation project, part residential/event facility, and part research center.
One of the major differences between Qingxing Lou and many of the other preserved tulou in the area is that Qingxing Lou is open for visitors and researchers to stay overnight and experience life in the tulou on a longer-term basis. We believe that as the tulou is a vernacular family housing building--not a temple, landmark, or palace--the residential living experience is paramount to understanding the tulou and envisioning its future.
In the spirit of a sustainable future, Friends of Tulou aims to serve as a platform for groups to become involved and become a part of the Qingxing Lou family. We particularly welcome individuals and groups with a long-term interest in the tulou and its future (e.g., interest in urban planning, landscape design, sustainable agriculture, vernacular building, community development, educational initiatives, architectural and artistic interventions, etc).
The living arrangements are ideal for larger groups (groups of of up to 50 people: research teams, group retreats, etc) -- and we welcome both long-term and short-term proposals for programming in the tulou. As of now, to minimize disturbance on the community, the tulou is currently NOT set up as a short-term hostel or guesthouse for the public, and open only by appointment and special arrangement with Friends of Tulou. The minimum stay in the tulou is 3 nights, and minimum party size is 10 people. In addition to modern bathroom and shower facilities, the tulou has guestrooms to accommodate up to 50 overnight guests.
For information on past events, please see Events and Projects.
For more information on the building and accomodations please see Facilities.
If you are interested in using the tulou facility for a project or event, please see Contact.
